Hong Kong SAR passport photo standard (HK_passport in our verified spec DB).
- Size: 40×50mm — NOT the Schengen-standard 35×45mm
- Head height: 32–36mm from chin to crown
- Background: plain white
- Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open (standard biometric practice)
- Recency: taken within the last 6 months (standard biometric practice — confirm with the Immigration Department)
- Editing: strict — no retouching, filters or AI alteration of appearance; digital background replacement not allowed

The HKSAR Immigration Department accepts online applications with a digital photo as well as paper applications with printed photos — the same composition rules (40×50mm equivalent framing, head 32–36mm, plain white background) apply to both. Confirm the current digital pixel specs on gov.hk before uploading, and note the size is 40×50mm, not the Schengen 35×45mm.
