40+ countries · 400+ China formats · Exact pixel output · crop-only mode for strict documents · background tools for eligible formats
Three different kinds of processing
Geometric output changes include cropping and resizing. File operations include format conversion and compression. Content edits change pixels in the person or background. Authorities can treat these categories differently, so a product should disclose exactly which operation it performs.
Strict documents need a strict workflow
US passport guidance says not to change a photo using software, phone apps, filters or artificial intelligence. UK passport guidance also requires the image to be unedited. Refiner therefore keeps the uploaded person unchanged for strict document presets and uses crop and resize output only. Background replacement is not a universal fix
A white-looking result does not prove the edit is permitted. When the selected authority requires an original image, photograph the applicant against the correct physical background. Background tools are reserved for eligible non-strict formats.
What a transparent result should show
Before download, the interface should identify the selected rule, output size and operations performed. It should never describe a generated result as guaranteed government acceptance.
