Choose the exact visa workflow

A destination can use different rules for an online form, a paper application, an embassy appointment or an external visa centre. Start with the destination, visa category, country of application and submission channel. Refiner keeps these scenarios separate so a familiar size such as 35 × 45 mm is not presented as a universal rule.

  • Destination and visa category
  • Country and centre where you apply
  • Digital upload, paper photo or live capture
  • Adult, child and documented exceptions

Check more than width and height

A correctly sized canvas can still fail because the head is too large, the face is tilted, the file is over the portal limit or the background is unsuitable. A useful check covers the file, composition and capture rules together.

  • Pixels, aspect ratio, format and file size
  • Head position, eye line and frontal pose
  • Lighting, sharpness and background
  • Glasses, head coverings and expression

Examples of materially different digital rules

The United States visa photo specification uses a square JPEG between 600 × 600 and 1200 × 1200 pixels and no more than 240 KB. Singapore passport eServices recommend 400 × 514 pixels and accept several file formats up to 8 MB. These examples show why a generic photo resizer is not a compliance checker. Editing policy is part of the specification

Cropping, resizing and file conversion are not the same as changing a person or reconstructing a background. For strict identity documents, Refiner uses the original image and applies only deterministic crop and output steps. Background tools appear only for eligible formats; the issuing authority always makes the final decision.

FAQ

Is 35 × 45 mm a universal visa photo size?
No. It is common, but the head size, background, file rules and submission process can differ.
Does a visa photo checker guarantee acceptance?
No. It can identify measurable risks, but the embassy, consulate or application centre makes the final decision.
Can I replace a visa photo background?
Only when the exact application permits it. Strict documents should be retaken against the correct physical background.
