ID photo sizes by country: 2×2 inches, 35×45 mm and everything between
Rejected uploads are almost always a size or file-size problem. The US asks for a square 2×2 in (600×600 px); the UK and most Schengen states want 35×45 mm with the head taking 70–80% of the frame; Canada uses 50×70 mm; India asks for 51×51 mm. Digital submissions add their own pixel and kilobyte limits on top.
Pick your document below for exact pixel dimensions, background rules, file-size limits and how to make it. Retouch.im crops to exact pixels and swaps backgrounds — preview is free.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a US passport photo?
Exactly 2×2 inches (51×51 mm), which is 600×600 px at 300 dpi for digital submission. Head height must be 1–1⅜ in (25–35 mm).
What size is a UK or Schengen passport photo?
35×45 mm. The head must measure 70–80% of the image height, and the background must be plain light grey or white with no shadows.
Can I retouch an official ID photo?
For passports and government IDs, no — only cropping, scaling and minor exposure correction are allowed. For CV and application photos, light retouching is normally fine.
My file is too large to upload. What now?
Most portals cap uploads between 20 KB and 10 MB. Retouch.im can target a specific output file size while keeping the image usable.
